Chairman's Message

Dear Friends of the Silicon Photovoltaic community,

It is my great pleasure to invite you to SiliconPV on April 17-20, 2011 in Freiburg. SiliconPV will fully focus on the science and technology of crystalline silicon solar cells. First of all, this is of great importance for the progress of silicon photovoltaics which is mainly technology-driven. The number of scientific publications in this field is growing at the same tremendous speed as the industrial output of silicon cells and modules. For most of us, this requires that we not only have to stay in touch with the state-of-the-art in technology but also have to handle the ever growing number of projects, business meetings and market demands at the same time.

So allow yourself four days fully dedicated to interesting scientific and technological presentations and discussions with your colleagues. The scientific committee and I did not only try to set up a high-class program but also give you the chance to enjoy a stimulating atmosphere. This is why the lunches, welcome reception and conference dinner are all included in the registration fee. Additionally the City of Freiburg is really a wonderful environment for such an event.

Obviously the idea of initiating such a conference was not only striking to the scientific committee itself but also to lot of other researchers in this field. We have received 149 abstracts from 18 countries. Thanks to all the authors who submitted abstracts. Your contributions will be the keystone for the success of SiliconPV! These abstracts went through a strict selection based on a blind review process, i.e. the reviewers (at least four per paper) could only see the title and text of the abstracts but not the authors’ name and their affiliation. The selection of the submitted abstracts for the final program was purely based on these review results.

I am confident that we will have an excellent time during these four days at SiliconPV and that at the end of the conference we can all go home with the good feeling of having learned something new!

Stefan Glunz
Chairman of SiliconPV 2011
